FOODSAF is a new generation specialist food disinfectant designed to significantly reduce the levels of bacteria present on food surfaces without tainting or adversely affecting the appearance of the produce.
Food Poisoning reported incidents in the UK are running at well over 50,000 per annum. The Industry is now focusing its attention on the risk of fresh produce such as Salad, Vegetables and Fruit. The Consumers Association tested more than 130 sandwiches for food poisoning and other bacteria and found that improvements could be made to food hygiene standards.
More bacteria were found overall than expected with 21 of the sandwiches containing food poisoning bacteria, that is 1 in 6.
In addition, the Consumers Association tested 41 high street Salad Bars which revealed evidence of S. aureus, E. coli and Listeria.
FOODSAF has been proven in independent trials to significantly reduce the TPC (Total Plate Count) of bacteria present. Washing at a strength of 100ppm (parts per million) available chlorine (av. cI.), FOODSAF tablets demonstrated a TPC reduction to <100 in 10 minutes. [classified as "Commercially Sterile"]
Washing in sodium hypochlorite at 200 ppm av. cI. for 30 minutes produced mixed results with 25% of samples having >100 TPC after washing and a marked deterioration in the quality of the produce.
FOODSAF contains an organic chlorine donor sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) combined with food grade components to form a fast dissolving effervescent tablet which releases hypochlorous acid in solution. Used in conjunction with potable (tap) water, the tablets are fully dissolved before submerging the produce for a pre determined period of time.
